Well the whole idea is that it's a surprise. You've already let it be known to him! My suggestion would be to go to your favourite place or where you met, nothing over the top, and do it quietly there. Nothing too elaborate.

Going anywhere special on New Years Eve ? club or pub or friends/neighbours ?

If your are, then involve the landlord, or owner by asking if you can 'sneak' into the pub/club, and even better if they have a 'side room', earlier in the evening around 5 pm and decorate it with a few golden/silver/red balloons, and streamers, and on the wall, with a 'will you Marry Me' poster.
(but promise to clean the place up afterwards)

Ring your friends/relatives now, so that they can be there, as you may need entrance tickets.

Get settled first, on the night so that you can involve your friends and relatives as to what and when to go into the pub/club or enter the room (if it's set aside), and you and your guy, go in last of all....

If you're not going out, but have a really good friend/neighbour, maybe you can do the same, but at their house, and then just arrange with him to 'pop' in for a quick drink etc, on the way to a pub, or just to call round.

It doesn't have to be a party at this neighbours or friends house, just somewhere where he won't be expecting his proposal, then when you have proposed, you can return home to finish the New Years festivities.(taking your friends/neighbours home with you)

Hope this helps.. congratulations by the way..to you both

Have a terrific time

Merry Christmas

a friend x

How about something fun and creative? Think of what he likes and think of a way to propose. For example; he likes football, at half time present a cake shaped like a football with "let's make a touch down". When he asks what that is all about, say the touch down is getting married.

I proposed to my husband about 7 years ago. They way I did was: I took a work application from my job changed the heading to : Application for Wife. I filled it all out and including position applying for: So- and so wife then I listed any/all experience for ex: cook, clean, keep house , build a future together, make lots and lots of love and make beautiful children. I then invited his mother and sister over to my moms house for dinner...I told them was I was doing. My mom and I just put a few things together for dinner. He thought it was weird that his family was over but didn't say anything. We all started eating the appetizer and then I went to get the main course. Being that he's Italian, I filled a large pasta dish with sauce and with spaghetti I spelled out" Will you marry me?" The question mark was a few pieces of spaghetti and the dot was a meatball. He started to laugh.... then I gave him my application...he read it and looked so confused poor thing. That's when I gave him a ring (band). It was sooo fun!!! I then waited about 1 year for him to purpose to me. I received a beautiful ring but- my proposal was sooo much better

Wrap a lot of presents, each with a note leading to the next and with something special about why you love him. In the last box have a ring for you with a note that says "I have one for you too if you will marry me". Then bring out his ring and you can place them on each others fingers.

ok well heres some ideas off people i know who have got engaged.

One person hid the ring in a kinder egg and then rewrapped it up so when they opened the yellow egg inside the chocolate the ring was there...if your american i hear people do this by rewraping the egg in silver foil to look like a hershey kiss and put a bit of paper peeping out saying 'will you marry me'.

Another person put it into the centre of a rose bud

I proposed to my man last valentines, getting married now in May. I got fed up waiting and just went for woke up on Valentines to no proposal so thought id ask him, iam a very impatent person. I got the ring and put a piece of paper in the shape of a heart inside the box with will you marry me written on it and left it under his pillow. He found it just as he was getting ready for bed and really surprised him.
Hope all goes well.

First of all don't buy him an engagement ring............... As your doing the proposing it'll have to be an engagement Harley Davidson....... Then at mid night kiss him say honey will you marry me and hand him the keys to the bike in a ring case............ !!!!!!!!

One possible problem.......... He may disappear for a few days!!!!!! ( after saying yes)

Thortons, the chocolate shop, are currently advertising their 'personalise your chocolates' service and one of the ads has a box of chocolates with "marry me?" on them....

If he likes chocolate, its a winner.

Also, from memory, think lastminute.com do personalised champagne- would be handily available to celebrate with after!

You don't need to get down on one knee, just hold his hands and look into his eyes and ask him. Follow the KISS theory. Keep It Simple Stupid.
