I want to book an award ticket on a Continental flight that has a Delta codeshare flight #. I have a FF account with both Delta and Continental. I don't have enough miles in either account for a free flight, but if I combine them, I do. Does any know if I can apply miles from both programs to buy a single ticket? Seems like it should be possible since it's the exact same plane...

Unfortunately, no.

Your logic is valiant, but the reality of the situation is that the flight is actually operated by Continental. The codeshare agreement just allows Delta to sell seats on it so that it APPEARS like Delta serves that market when they actually don't. Just as you cannot collect miles from both programs when you fly on a paid ticket, you cannot combine points from two programs to get a single ticket.

If you are interested in swapping miles out between Frequent Traveler programs, I suggest you check out points.com.

It depends if the companies have a shared agreement that accepts the other frequent flier miles. It might be the same plane but only one airline is running that plane so you might be out of luck. Even if your trip includes multiple airlines for the same trip, they usually keep their frequent flier program points seperate.

No the airlines are horribly strict about that.

Sometimes if you call the airline they may let you transfer miles from one account to another, but of course their would be a fee involved even if they let you do it.

So to make a long answer short.. NO.. its not possible.
