Do most people fear the same things, but deal with those common fears in different ways?

What do you think the fears are that we all share?

Fear is relative. Some fear death, some do not. Some are terrified that they'll die alone... etc
My worst fears are:
outliving my son
somehow loosing everything I've gained
witnessing the end of the world (and no I don't mean the rapture)
things like that

My greatest fear is irrational and I know it but it was borne out of a bad experience in my youth - I fear hypodermic needles. When they have to be used on me they have to position me so that I cannot see it and if I'm watching a movie or television show where one shows up my stomach will roll. Luckily, for the most part I can avoid that fear.

I think humans in general fear not being loved by someone.

I fear not having control.
I fear losing things / people / faculties.
I fear never having the things I feel would make me happy.

I think most people fear those things. I try not to think about it like that, though. Fear is a waste of time. I let it go and live my life instead.

Fear stems from the unknown. When truth is uncovered, one knows what to expect in any given situation, and there is no longer anything to fear. As one draws closer to absolute truth, one can no longer identify with fear.

I fear that my children will have to go through painful things, even though I acknowledge that they are the best learning experiences.

I fear that I will never "live up to my potential" and "make something of myself" and yet will spend my whole life being disappointed in myself instead of just enjoying things as they come and accepting my life as it is.

Deep open water. I can't even watch Finding Nemo with out freaking out. LOL It's a phobia, no rhyme or reason. I deal with it by not going into deep open water. :)
I also fear anything happening to my kids.

I fear losing my physical or mental abilities and if I did, I fear there would be no one there to take care of me.
Is that a midlife crisis?

the religious right. their bullying put bush in office, which led to the war in iraq and continuing agitation of the muslims, and their constant anti-social campaign to legislate their morality threatens to take away my civil rights. worse, they could actually succeed in creating a christian theocracy, which would isolate us from the rest of the world and further worsen our relationship with the muslim world. if there is a world war 3, it will be because fundies took over america.

considering the prevalence of religion, and its obsession with death, I'd have to vote most people fear death......that's why religion exists, to attempt to control that fear

EDIT - I don't have anything I really can work up fear over anymore........
