I have seen so many questions today from believers in God that have insulted atheists. WHY in the world would they want to know God/Jesus if this is the way that we treat those who do not believe. Jesus died for those people just as much as He died for us- Please stop insulting those people and one day , they may see God in us and they may want to know Him. I am SO sorry for these types of questions.

SAPIENT- my intentions was not to insult- I apologize if I did= however when you have something wonderful to share, don't you share it, even if someone else does not experience it?

just to clarify= it will be your choice if you stay an atheist or not, however, if we REALLY lived as Jesus did, and not how you see Him, maybe your choice may change, however it will always still be your choice.

Yeah, that ticks me off too. You know what really bugs me? When someone who isn't a Christian asks a serious question about the Bible or some other important issue, and Christians just sneer and mock and insult and walk away rather than actually trying to help the person. It's like they don't even care that there is a real, live person on the other end of the question who might actually be searching for an answer, they just see "atheist" or "Muslim" or whatever else and react. I think it's sad. Especially when people do that to someone who is obviously bitter or miserable (sometimes, it just oozes our of every word of the question doesn't it?). Like, hello people, that is NOT going to help anyone!!
Anyways, I think your question here shows you to be very sweet and thoughtful (and it is not insulting, despite what a previous poster said!). If all the other believers here were as kind as you are I think it would be much better.

Thank you. If all the Christians were as well-mannered as you and my friend Quiet Warrior, people might want to listen more. However, it may not be the case that we would be convinced, only that we'd listen.
Atheists don't often change, particularly not ones that came by way of being brought up in a religion and becoming disillusioned by it. That's what happened to me. I tried all different religions, but found I could not sincerely believe, and did not feel comfortable reciting a creed that starts with "We believe in God, the Father Almighty," when I did not. Doesn't seem like the sort of thing someone should lie about.
But I sincerely thank you for your good manners. Live long and prosper!

You are so right, Adore Him. I am new to Yahoo! Answers and I am very surprised at how many insults are tossed back and forth.
I am much more offended by people who call themselves Christians and are insulting to others than by the insulting comments of non-Christians. I have to wonder if those so-called Christians really are saved or they just think they are, for they are not behaving as if the Holy Spirit resides in them. Don't they get it that they are representatives of Christ in everything they say and do?
I've even wondered if some who claim to be Christians are really Christian haters and they are just getting people riled up so they hate Christians and Christ even more.
I think the only thing we can do is confront those insulting "Christians" whenever we come across their messages. Perhaps it will stop some of them from dishonoring our Lord through offending others.
Thank you for your question and your gentle spirit.
God bless!

Thank you your friendly words that point out that not all of the venom spewed comes from the 'evil' atheists. There's at least a bit of evil in the other camp as well and it does tend to alienate people in the same way that nonbelievers don't win any friends with their insults either. Nevertheless, don't bet on many conversions happening. Those who come here do so with strong feelings about God and religion and seem to me like the very last that would ever come to believe.

Er, just because something is written down somewhere doesn't mean it's true. And christianity has brought more pain and misery to the world than any other belief system -- more even than islam, because it's been around longer. A religion whose adherents behave as badly as your lot do is not a good religion. It is an evil religion. That is why we do not believe in it. Okay? .

I have seen a few questions that deliberately insult, and those are just as offensive to me as they are to anyone else, believer or not. (Like the one suggesting throwing atheists in jail.)
However, I have often seen honest questions being taken as insult simply because the name of Christ is mentioned. In those cases, the Christians are not to blame, we are commanded to preach the gospel, and the cross is an offense to some.
I do agree though, we need to remember that we are ambassadors of Christ to the world, and as such if we act hateful, the world will see Christ as hateful. I really want to try to get that message out, I am just trying to figure out how, I feel like shouting it from the rooftops. I see he hate spewed out by some "Christians", to the point that they stand on the street holding signs saying, "God hates gays" and I feel like shouting, "What are you THINKING?!!! How dare you drag Christ's name through the mud like that! Jesus loves all people! Why do you say He hates them? He loves them and wants to deliver them, He does not hate them!"
I see Christians who go to restaurants and talk about Christ and about Church throughout their meal, then they treat waiters like dirt, and leave no tip. The Gospel would be more fully served if they would just not even call attention to the fact they they were Christians. It would be even better served if they would both proclaim their faith AND treat others with respect.
Lord I pray that you would bring revival to this nation, and Lord please begin in the house of God, in your Church. Lord help people to wake up to the fact they are the ones to represent Christ wherever they go. That they need to make sure their walk matches their talk. That they need to demonstrate your love and your power to save.

JESUS ate with the publicans and sinners. he did not condemn or criticize them. he just led the way!
however, trying to change the behavior of insulting people in this venue is like trying to get rid of all the sand out of the earth! there are just too many out there!
the bible teaches that that those that never had a chance in this world age to know GOD' truth, will all have total recall from the first heaven and earth ages in the 1000 yrs coming up soon!.
they will receive further teaching and discipline. they will be tested at the end when satan is loosed one final time. if they still worship him, into the lake of fire with him they will surely go!

I agree with you. You know what, those that are insulting atheists and those of other religions and judging them, should know that in the Bible it says...
"Judge not, lest ye be judged." Watch yourself, if you don't pay attention to what God calls you to do, if you don't do your very best to listen to the word of God and put his word into practice....you could run into trouble yourselves. Don't forget that you yourself are a sinner saved by grace through faith. Faith must be put into action for it to really be faith.
EDIT: If you want to help turn their life around, you need to be an example. If they see you doing good, being kind, generous, etc...they may be interested in your faith. If you are cruel, unkind, hateful, etc...you will be their stumbling block.
BTW, what I'm saying is for all those who claim Christianity. Oh yeah, and read your Bibles people, God uses it to help you live the life he called you to live.
For those who are saying, "They insult us, we should do the same to them." That's exactly what the Bible says not to do. Don't be a Pharisee.

As far as when will the atheist, you say that as you expect them to. That is a good thing. No one that loves our Lord, will insult the atheist. We will pray for them and love them as well. Someone once said to me: " However much you hate your worst enemy, that is how much you love the Lord." All we can do is to pray for the atheist and to live our lives as an example for all, not just the atheist to see. We all live and learn by example.

Most of the non-believers I know are former christians. We already know that Jesus. Unfortunately, the only way I'd be interested is if there were actually some historical, extra-biblical evidence (AT ALL) of Jesus' existence.. from there, I'd have to see how he could possibly have been the Messiah, considering he fulfilled none of the messianic prophecies of Judaism.
I do appreciate your sentiment, however, and being that christians are supposed to be showing the love of Christ, their testimony should not be one of insults and hatred.
