I agree with dont know everything.
The exact same thing happened with my 94 S-10. The catalytic converter started coming apart and some of the honeycomb got stuck sideways. It was just about like pulling the potato in a tailpipe trick on someone. No power or anything.
That was easily remedied with a piece of rebar and a hammer.

have the transmission checked. my nephew has a 2001 dodge ram 1500 2wd that done that it made a racket then he had to have the tranny rebuilt he pulled into a parking lot then when he went to leave it all of a sudden started made a racket and did not have any power when i checked the fluid it was full and smelt burnt dodges have weak trannys anyways or so i believe i know 3 people with dodges and all 3 has had to rebuild theirs. anyhow what you have explained seems like what his truck did also it could be catalytic converter failure but i would not bet on it.

The catalytic convertor may be clogged, the vibrating sound you hear might be the honeycomb loose inside the housing.
Sometime when the exhaust system is cold, roll under the truck and hit the convretor with your fist, if it rattles the honeycomb is loose. When it gets loose, it sometimes will get sideways and slow the exhaust flow to the point you have very little power. Elimination of the convertor (frowned on by the EPA) or replacement is your cure.

On a dodge they use a sensor to keep timing. Take it to ur local mechanic and have the sensor and timing checked. It is possible that the sensor went out. It will still work, but it hesitates because it doesn't know what to do. (Source: Husband, Mechanic over 16+ yrs.)
P.S. I would check the altenator and battery 1st. by going to a local autozone. This is the simple thing to check 1st. The 2nd thing to check is what I wrote above (I came up with this conclusion because of the noise you described.)

My guess is that its the alternator. It's what powers your truck when the engine is running. Best bet is probably to take it in to a mechanic or at least to an autozone or something.

it could be the insides of the converter that has come loose on the inside of it and if that happened it will restrict the flow of exhaust coming out of it,and that will make it loose its power badly you can take it to a muffler shop and they can check this for you, that's pretty common with those ,have it checked they can tell you if that whats causing this, and also have them scan the computer, these days repairs are made based on what the computer says mostly ,good luck with it.

Best think to do in my opinion. Take it to AutoZone and ask them to put the computer in your truck to check what it is.Plus i think is free. That way you dont have to go buying parts that you dont need.
