Today i got a phone call from a professional staff agency right... The lady asked me how much i wanted to get paid, and i really didnt know how to answer... I wanted to say 13-14 dollars an hour but i told her ten dollars... So she told me the job pays 12 dollars an hour... When i go to the interview tomorrow would it be wrong of me to ask for 13 dollars and hour? What do you guys think? I know on their webpage it states the job pays 12-14 per hour... Thanks all!!

At the interview they will officailly tell you how much the position pays. Now If you think that you can negotiate a higher pay go for it. Also consider the prospect of raises as well. In essence you may only have to work a short time to get the wage you wanted in the first place.

Do you hav experience in the industry? You can't ask for more than the minimum salary if it's something you have never done before. If you are interviewing at the staffing agency, it's different. You will need to be open to a wider range of pay, and they will find you a position within that range.

If you are interviewing with a company teh staffing agency sent you, then no, you can't ask for $13. The agency does the negotiating. They will get you as much as they can, since they are paid based on it.

If this is a seasonal job and temporary, then I wouldn't bring it up. If your looking at a longer term, like permanent, then ask if the company has a review period. The company my husband works for does employee evaluations 90 days after hire, at which time they would then also qualify for the 401K and medical benefits as well as a performance raise.
I wouldn't ask for more money up front, unless you want to turn yourself out the door, not good etiquette to tell the potential employer what you want as a wage if they already have a set amount they are willing to pay out. Build some good history with them before asking for a raise.

As I am a staffing agent myself, I would call her back and see if they are willing to pay 13. I can tell you from experience, If it is a temp to permanent position, you are being paid by the agency. If it is a permanent agent you are working with., you will want to tell the agent. Trust you me, It is in the best interest for the agent to get you the most her can as they are paid on commissions based on the salary or rate.

Be brave, be bold, ask for what you think your worth and what you can contribute to this job place, go for it. Good luck.
