Yes - I think they are too - I would consider them as a source - they are GIA/IGA certified and everything!

Actually Diamonds are over rated.
There is between a 500 percent to 700 percent mark-up.
Check out Blue Nile.com for learning about Diamonds. If you pay $7000 for a Diamond ring that ring if you were to take it for auction would start at about $1000., which is how much of a mark-up there is on Diamonds.
Be smart and do research first. Gem Stones are more rare than Diamonds. The reason is DeBeers has a stock load of Diamonds and if they were all released most Diamonds would be worth a lot less.
A one carat perfect diamond costs about $10,000, no joke. A Gem Stone such as Ruby, Sapphire, Emeralds etc... cost a lot too, however they are more rare. Diamonds are set around these stones to accentuate the colors that radiate from these stones.
A good gem stone is not cheap, however it increases in value after a certain amount of time. You may want to check out an art gallery that auctions off jewelry or speak to an appraiser before purchasing any type of Gem or Pearls.
As with Diamonds it is cut, clearity, and carat, with Pearls it is lustre, shape etc...
Always remember Buyer Beware!

i was checking out their rings the other day.. but don't get too excited by the ones in the case.. those are mostly CZ replicas of the real diamonds they sell (same setting size and cut)
I don't see anything wrong with getting your ring at costco.. I'm sure its a hell of a lot better quality than you'd get at a chain jewelry store or a dept store.. just ask about their return policy before buying in case you have buyer's regret.. I don't see any point in going to the jewelry district unless - you have a relationship with a certain vendor AND know a lot about jewelry.. dealing with "experts" who are "giving you a deal" is an easy way to get ripped off..

Costco has beautiful diamonds, and their prices are very good. Stay out of Sam's Club.
Costco just wrote an article about their diamond selection process in the last issue of their newsletter - maybe you can find it on line.
If you're concerned, go to Costco, get a price and note the carat, cut, clarity and color. Then go to the district and price something similar. You might be pleasantly surprised.
Congratulations!

A quality diamond is a quality diamond no matter where you buy it. If the LA jewelry district is anyting like the NYC one, make sure that you or the person you're shopping with knows diamonds. Typically, you can get good deals at those stores, but you have to know what to look for (the four C's) and what they're worth.
Good Luck.

I think that it is funny that people say not to buy diamonds at the place you buy chips...well these people should go look at those diamonds. They have a better rating in quality and color than most jewelry stores. In addition, the price that you pay for a ring at costco is cheaper than what the actual ring is worth. My brother bought his wife's ring there and when they had it appraised for insurance it was worth more than what he had paid. The same goes for my moms ring (she got a new one when her original one got stolen). My mom also has diamond earings from Costco, other kind of gem stone rings, and a diamond bracelet too. The only downside to looking at costco is that they don't have a huge selection.
