Why non cash? baked goods may be too personal because you don't know what they like. And you are right, a sanitation worker might not be interested in baked goods while they are dealing with trash all day. How about gift cards?

Depending on where you live, I wouldn't give baked goods. They may not accept them if you live in a high crime area where people may do something to the food. (I know I wouldn't accept food from a stranger.) If you know them personally (my mom knows everyone, she takes them coffee and chats with them, lol), that would be okay, but otherwise, I wouldn't.

Perhaps sealed packages of coffee or hot cocoa, or gift cards (like a Visa gift card that can be used anywhere), or lottery tickets, or inexpensive items of clothing.

Homemade food - Bread, Bums, Cookies, cupcakes. Gloves, socks, scarf (if in cold area) not too expensive tie (Conservative) Pencil set. If this person is particularly good and you really want to show appreciation (Do you want to do their job?) then you can give shirt, Sweater, some kind of hat or cap.

Remember that your gift need not be expersive. It is the thought, not the value, that really counts.

Whatever you give they will feel appreciated. Maybe wrap the garbage mans very good so they can open it after they get home if its a bakes Item. Your thoughtful appreciation is actually the best gift of all.
This is just me but I really like christmas cookies, they taste great and look very festive.

Give them a pair of movie tickets. It's a perfect non cash gift that is neutral and would have mass appeal.

It should be something small if they are on motorbikes or they will be overwhelmed by big gifts. Gift certs are still the best.
