In my personal opinion, the name is too old fashioned and possibly unfair for a child. It is more important for the child to like the name considering it is theirs. Then again, you can't just ask your fetus if they like a particular name, so who's to say they wouldnt like Eloise? Unique is always good within reason, but pick a name you feel that your teenage child in high school is going to like and be proud to take into adulthood.
Just my opinion

Well, I'm not a guy, but I named my daughter Eloise, because I like it too.

I like it. I named my children old world names. My parents "experimented" with my name and I hated it growing up - misspelling, mispronouncing and even people thinking that I was of a different ethnic background. My siblings (I'm the oldest) have regular names.

It's a sweet name, but it really just makes me think of 'Eloise' from the children's books.

Isn't she the lady who does all the household hints. That's the first thing that comes to mind.

It is old fashioned, and not a very good name for a child, but if it doesn't work out she can always go by Elly.
