The build high quality of the two lenses are regarding the comparable, to tell you the fact, one being purely longer than the different. the two no longer my first selection in lenses, yet I went with the 18-135mm with my D80. i decide to propose you keep some hundred greater greenbacks and ditch the two lenses for the 18-200mm VR. you will thank your self later. you're gazing approximately $1400 for the mixture (from B&H). in case you have been to pass to Wolf/Ritz, or yet another stroll-in digicam keep you're in a position to get a kit fee for the mixture and keep a hundred greenbacks or so, yet any way you do it, i decide to propose the 18-200mm VR above the standard kit lenses. From my journey, the 18-135mm isn't a undesirable lens, yet no longer very rapid for indoor stuff. The 18-200VR isn't speedier, however the VR facilitates. in case you want a solid usual zoom, the pro DX 17-55mm f/2.8 is the "one", in case you are able to locate the money for it...

I agree you will have to take it in for repair.

While you're at the camera store, buy a nice Skylight 1A (uncoated) or 1B (coated) filter for it and keep it on your lens 24/7 unless you're using a polarizer.

I have the same lens and it's got dirt inside.

I haven't noticed any degradation of the image so I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope this helps.

If they aren't showing up on your photos, don't worry about it. If they are showing up, bring it in to a repair shop for cleaning.
