My puppy is a 4 week old German Shepherd. His Mom died a week ago so I am taking care of him. He was already eating puppy chow mixed with water when I got the puppy last week which I have continued 3 times a day. At first he was doing great but then yesterday he got crazy mad diarrhea. Every 30 minutes or so he is crying at the door to go out. He's been really good about doing his "business" outside but the poor dog is pooping as much as he drinks. Is there something I could give him for the diarrhea or should I be feeding him different? Am I giving him to much water by mixing it in with the food and giving him seperate water?

You should get your puppy to a vet. Where did you get the puppy? Have you ever heard of parvo virus? Parvo is a virus that puppies get that attacks and kills cells in their intestinal lining that can cause a puppy to have horrible diarrhea. In very young puppies it can cause death. There are other symptoms associated with Parvo such as lethargy and vomiting. Puppies with Parvo also have a very distinguishable smell. Parvo is also HIGHLY contagious to other puppies and dogs that are not vaccinated against it. Keep him isolated until you can get him treated. Again, get your pup to the vet ASAP. Even if he does not have Parvo, if he has diarrhea that bad he is probably terribly dehydrated. If your puppy has parvo, he needs to be treated now. If he goes to long without treatment, he may not make it.

Good luck and I hope he makes it through this.

I would take your puppy to the vet it is not good that it has diarrhea. and ask your vet on food your 4 week old puppy should be eating but this could be because it is in depression of losing its mum. you should keep a close eye on and don't live in the past with him, he will get over it in a few weeks, but do take him to the vets as soon as you can.

Being as young as he is, and as small as he is, he will easily become dehydrated. It looks like you need an emergency trip to the vet.

Also, why is there no milk supplement being given? If the b itch died a week ago, the pup should have still been on her milk until about 5-6 weeks... You might want to talk to your vet about that as well.

becoz he is so young i would definatly feed him puppy lactol milk. insted of giving water seperatly give the milk. and add water to his food until he is about 8-9 weeks old.
but also carry on with the soft puppy food.

good luck

ps: you say that he goes toilet outside. at 4weeks old this is NOT good he could have caught somthing from an infected animal. you should have him checked over by the vets to make sure

Severe diarrhea in a very young motherless pup requires a vet ASAP. They can go downhill fast from dehydration.

The very best thing you can do for this pup is take him to the vets. I don't think the food is the problem. it could be worms, It could be a upset stomach, it could be parvo. no way to know without a vet check.
Pups dehydrate quickly so don't wait get him to teh vet right now Please.

I dont know much about the pup.. but the mother should not have had puppies, she clearly died from labor. Which is just sick, because if she was spayed, she would still be alive. Good luck with the puppy... 4 weeks old is very very young, he needs to get to a vet.

Diarrhea is also going to severely dehydrate him. Which could kill him. He needs medical help.

VET! They can check for anything else besides diet that may be causing this, and they sell milk replacement and bottle nursers and better quality chow.

Take him to the Vet.

If you can't, mix pure pumpkin (from the can) in his food to help his stool.
