Anybody have a tradition for celebrating the solstice? I'm looking to create my own traditions as a scientific pantheist... and your suggestions are welcome.

Taking a cue from the ancients: Decorate a tree with ornaments representing the Sun.

I also live with a bunch of nonsupporting.... no I won't say that! well, I have also left it kinda late but I am planning to sit in my room, say a prayer and ask a blessing of the coming year in front of my pincone-infested temporary altar, light some incense, probably cinnamon since it's my favourite and light a candle to celebrate how the light is returning and the days are getting longer. I really can't wait until I am old enough to move out so I can have a REAL ritual each sabbat and esbat! (shame I'm only 13...)

About the only real tradition I have this time of year is getting a bottle of Bailey's and snuggling with the husband in front of the fireplace on Christmas Eve.

It is a tradition for us to go snowboarding during Winter Solstice.

It is the shortest day of the year. I would think it'd be cool to go into the woods, look at the stars, and have prayer/meditation at midnight.

I am sure that you would find info on traditional foods to serve at an evening meal. Google it!

Good luck!

You can decorate a pine tree.Go put up lots of holly and pine cones.Hang paper snow flakes in your windows. Make some of your favorite foods. Make a spicy punch ! And DANCE AND BE HAPPY ! If you have a fireplace you can burn a yule log, that makes everything cozy ! Again DANCE AND BE MERRY ! Happy Yule time !

Going into the woods to gather holly, mistletoe, and evergreen branches seems right. May I suggest while in the woods the traditional wearing of the bright orange so you don't get shot by deer hunters? We wouldn't want to lose you!

i prefer the old druid traditions. 5 days of existing outside of existence, then the begining of the new year.
