That's all holidays are anymore; commercialism. Think about it! Christmas: presents. Birthday: presents. Valentines Day: presents. That's not just all, though. Christmas isn't even Jesus' birthday and even if it was, do you see people really honoring Christ Jesus by bitching about family dysfunction and what they didn't get?

I don't buy Christmas presents for anyone ever.

(I certainly don't agree with your suggestion that "we should become a more religious society." What's that all about?)

I am not in the least pressured. I just don't buy them. Even my late wife used to go and buy her own present from me. That way she got something she really wanted.

The wise men presented the infant Jesus with gifts of Frankincense and Myrrh, so I guess that is some of the reason why we celebrate with gifting at Christmas time.

I agree with the fewer presents idea--it's gotten a bit ridiculous when you are expected to give your mailman a present. Doesn't he get a paycheck or something like that?
