Can we persuade God? Listen:

The Isrelites danced around a golden calf at the base of Mount Sinai, the mountain upon which Moses, at that moment, was receiving the Ten Commandments. When God told Moses that their acts of idoltry warrented their destruction, Moses argued with God: if God destroyed Isreal, the Egyptians would say God only took the Isrealites out of Egypt to slay them in the desert. This would be counterproductive to the image of a beneficent Creator of the universe. God agreed and retracted the plan of national destruction (Ex. 32:14)

So, can we persuade God?

No, but we can ask him of certain things. He knew how He would act before anything was created. He knows what we will ask of Him, but He wants to be asked. Its like a father and child, the father will give the child a toy, but the child has to ask for it.
Our perfect Father wants to give us forgiveness, but only if we ask for it.
We have the best Christmas present with our name on it, forgiveness of sins and salvation for eternity. All we have to do is accept it.
