Which do you want, proof or evidence? Or are you not aware the words do not meant the same thing? Seems most people in this forum use them interchangeably and with few exceptions, incorrectly. I guess I will have to say there is evidence, but whether there is proof depends on your standards of what constitutes proof. To more fully answer your question the way you have worded it, Christmas has for many years been an influence before the winter solstice, through it and for a while afterward, though it is usually more of a financial influence. By the way, in case you are interested, there is very convincing evidence that Christmas has been influenced by events surrounding the winter solstice.

I am a Christian and celebrate the birth of Christ.
One thing we do as family is draw names on Christmas afternoon, and then we each take a gift bag to our room and give the person something of ours. It is fun and meaningful and they always remember what they got in the family exchange. I started it to keep the celebration going more of the day.................and not be over after lunch.
I also enjoy giving secretly - the Bible says that it softens the heart of the recipient. I enjoy putting an ornament or candy on desks and no one knows where they came from! Such a delight!

We celebrate Christmas. I am a follower of Christ.
Even though the roots of the secular celebration are far from the gospel, it is an excellent oppertunity to tell bring others to the gospel.
I also prefer giving gifts secretly. The greater the need the better the gift.
Hope that helps.

Christmas celebrant, here.
We celebrate in many ways:
We start our Advent calendar on December 1st.
I pull out all of our Christmas-themed movies, music, and books, and we will go through those a few times before the 25th.
My favorite ways to clebrate would be listening to carols, and watching movies.
My family has a grab bag each year, and we have several family Christmas parties, that I enjoy very much.
Happy thoughts. Thank you.
Merry Christmas! God bless you. †

We like celebrating Solstice with a night vigil, telling stories and singing songs, then greeting the sun at dawn by ringing bells. LED candles (for safety!) in each window are allowed to remain on all night to keep the darkness at bay and encourage the sun to return its light to the Earth.
At our house we break our vigil with monkeybread for breakfast. Later we celebrate with a feast of Yule Boar (aka yummy ham), egg dishes to celebrate the returning sun (like devilled eggs or quiche), spiced cider, cornbread with peppers in it and cookies with a solar theme. We give gifts, and have a Yule tree. One strange custom particular to our house, is hiding the stockings - you have to hunt for your stocking! Our Yule tree is artificial, but we also purchase a native rooted tree in a barrel to plant in the spring. It adorns our front porch, along with a star-shaped evergreen wreath. Holly from our own trees adorns entrances into the house.
Since we do not have a working fireplace, a patio firepit does good service for a burning a 'Yule log'.
Also in our observances, we put out offerings for wildlife - usually handmade suet cakes for the birds, which we fashion almost like ornaments to hang in the trees.

I'm a Christmas girl myself! (It's probably not the exact date that Jesus was born, but the church has decided that it's the day that we will celebrate.) I love giving too, but I usually can't keep it a secret. I'm bad at keeping secrets!!!!
I agree with that one guy about commercialism though. That's why I'd like to start making the gifts I give.

Call it what you will, I call it Christmas personally, it's all the same.
And I love being with family and friends and using it as an excuse to simply have fun. Also, I love doing random things for people I don't know, complete strangers.
