I put tea bags in my coffee pot (I don't drink coffee and got one as a gift) and I put in 9 or 10 but the tea is just too bitter. Is there something different I can do? I used to boil tea bags on the stove, but that can come out bitter too sometimes. What can I do differently to have good Iced tea?

If you are going to drink or serve Hot tea immediately you will find what you are doing is good, but you need to go another step for iced tea.

I put about 10 tea bags in the Mr. Coffee carafe with 10-12 cups of water in the machine , turn it on till it is all in the carafe, then let it stay in the pot for about ten minutes: or bring them to a boil on the stove and then let them simmer for about five minutes.

Prepare in the mean time about a cup of sugar, if you like it sweat, more or less, and about a quart of water in a gallon container.

Poor the hot tea, slowly stirring, into the gallon container. Additional cold water should be stirred, either rinsing the tea bags or straight, into the new solution until it is almost full.

After Stirring, pour the solution over a whole glass of ice to release the taste.

You will find this method takes the bitter taste out and makes the tea last longer , not clouding up, if the tea is stored in the refrigerator after cooling on the counter.

Obviously I am from the South, as we drink sweet tea, but you can , of course, just leave the sugar out for the same results.

This is easy! Get a mug or a ceramic soup bowl. Now either you can microwave water until hot and place 4-5 teabags inside to seep or...

Place 4-5 tea bags inside with water (fill water up only half-way to avoid overflow while cooking). Microwave at 75% power for about 4 minutes.

Mix in your sugar (about a cup) and pour into a drink pitcher (mine is 2 1/4 quarts).

Add cold water, mix with spoon and let chill.

WALLAH! Perfect homemade iced tea. I make this all the time and always get requests for it.

You can also try adding spearmint leaves, honey and lemon or orange slices.

**NOTE: Do NOT squeeze the tea bags after your remove them. It'll make your tea bitter. I know it seems like you're getting your money's worth and not wasting excess tea but, trust me, it'll taste better without squeezing.

Boil your water and when it comes to a boil, remove from the heat and then put in your tea bags for a little while. You don't have to use a big pot either. Use a small one with 2 family sized teabags (Lipton). Put your sugar (to taste) in a gallon pitcher, then pour the tea over it. (This helps disolve the sugar easier-but only use a plastic pitcher if you're doing this. Glass will break.) Leave the tea bags in the pot and pour warm water from the tap (if you have good tap water or a filter) over the tea bags and put this in the pitcher too. Keep doing this until it is about 1/3 of the way full. Stir and add your cold water and stir some more. Refrigerate.

When i make iced tea i boil water and add about 9 tea bags to a pitcher and pour the boiling water over the tea bags. I then cover the pitcher and let the tea seep for 5-10 minutes. Then i add water, and because i like a more southern style iced tea, i had lots of sugar but not to make it overly sweet. Also try things like mint leaves to enhance the taste

I make my tea in the mornings by boiling water and pouring it into a jug with about 10 tea bags. Let the jug sit in the sun all day and then put it in the fridge over night.

Sweeten each glass separately as I do not like sugar in my iced tea, but to each their own. Sun tea is very good!

My husband gets the Lipton Tea bags (the big ones) puts seven of them into a pitcher of cool water lets it sit on the counter for one day. Then he removes the tea bags add the sweetener and puts in the refrigerator. He can't make enough of it because him and the kids fight over it.

I can't believe no on else suggested this: You don't have to use hot water! I make wonderful iced tea in the fridge.

I use two Luzianne family size iced tea bags and I also had one regular (small) size bag of Bigalow Constant Comment, which adds a bit of orange and spice. In a glass container between one and two quarts, fill with cold tap water or filtered water if you prefer, and add tea bags, leaving paper tabs dangling over the lip. Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for a maximum of 12 hours. Remove tea bags.

This is a lot like making "sun tea" but it has definite advantages:

Since you're brewing in COLD water, this tea is mild in flavor...no bitterness...and it will keep for days in the fridge. Tea made with hot water tends to spoil after a day or two and may grow slime within a week. Fridge-brewed tea won't do that.

Don't have a glass jar? Buy a half-gallon of milk in the "return for deposit" bottle and keep it for tea!

Good luck!
