The consensus seems to be that the answer is a). Then why do people believe preachers over scientists when it comes to evolution?

Potentially a preacher could know more about a given branch of science than a scientist studying a different branch of science, for example a preacher may be an amateur archaeologist and know more about his area of interest than a quantum physicist. Realistically this is probably the only situation that this would occur.

The likelihood that a preacher would know more than a scientist in the scientist's discipline is very low.

I guess that would depend on 'what in science' they were talking about.
If a scientist says the earth is billions of years old-he does not "know" that. He only "believes" that much time may be needed to exhaust all the possibilities that would have to play out correctly "if" evolution could be true.

If a preacher says the earth is about 6230 years old-He doesn't "know" that either. But he bases that on the recorded genealogies in Genesis 5 and 11that give a time span from creation up until the time of Abraham to within 1 year. Then he looks at secular history from today back to the time of Abraham (+/- 150 years depending on the historian), and he just adds the two times together.

Now the scientist's 4+ billion year date uses a very sophisticated set of calculations and data, while the preacher's is a simple 'read and add' type method. But it is the preacher's belief that has the evidence-believe it or not. The scientist's belief has none. All his calculations are based on a speculation, and the perceived need to satisfy that speculation. (we did not even mention 'extrapolation')

Scientists, of course. And who is more likely to be correct about religion? a) Believers? b) Non-believers? >: )

The sad thing is that so many people feel that their faith in God is threatened by evidence that the world is billions of years old and that the human race developed ( we all know what word I chose not to use here) from a lower life form. Many of these same people may even use the saying "God's time is not our time" in other contexts but not think to apply it to the overall picture. For me, the ultimate question is "How big a God do you believe in?"

Science is only a methodology to discover reality.
Scientist seem to be nowhere near it (reality)
Preachers less said the better.
Many of them are not even aware of what they preach.
Its no more a mission of life but only a profession
thus
Both are far moved from reality.

Get in touch with a spiritualist (a real one, there are many fakes in this category as well)
He would show you what is REAL

From what I've heard, been told and seen about Evolution and even lied to - preachers know more about God's science than evolutionists.

Other scientists are okay.

Neither, if scientists chanGe their findings to get more gov't grant $, and preachers chanGe their findings to get more $.

Science without religion is lame.
Relgion without science is blind.

Let us be neither lame nor blind.

Let us look at the "evidence" to see what's "evident":
"that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God".
Galatians 1:8,9 ... Galatians 3:11,12 ... Galatians 5:4

"What the Spirit saith": "unto the churches" x7 is in
Galatains: the only book written "unto the churches".

Grace --> Mercy ---> Peace with you all. Amen.

Scientific knowledge is available to everyone who is willing to learn. Scientists are not priests of some hidden knowledge---it's not hidden, merely difficult.
