They say that more and more Americans are working a second or third job to make more money and in some cases just to make ends meat. I know one man who works four jobs totally 100 hours a week because he is so much in debt (he has thousands in unpaid medical bills and is to proud to declare bankruptcy).

Do you work a second job and if so what do you do in your second job?

Yes I work a second part time job that just goes to bills. That frees up my regular paycheck to save more and do the things I want to do. I personally see nothing wrong with a second job for people who just want to hold there head above water.

I would only work a second job if I absolutely had to. My free time with the family is too precious to me. When I was earning less than I am now, we just didn't spend money on things we didn't need like extra cable channels and cell phones. Now that I make more, we've lived without that stuff for so long we don't feel the need to get those things so my extra money can go towards double car payments and such. Thankfully we've done pretty good at staying out of major debt so far...knock on wood.

I started a home based business part time running alongside my traditional job, I was the Operations Director of a manufacturing company. I used to do it for about 7-10 hours per week, now it is my only business but I can hardly call it full time, I work when I want for as long as I want and am building a substantial residual income.
What I do is easy and can be done by anybody who has the desire to improve themselves, if you would like to know more then send me an email and I will give you some web addresses where you can get more information.

I have a second job at a fast food restaurant where I have the opportunity to get up to 24 hours on the weekends. Usually between the two jobs I work 45-65 hours a week. I don't have any kids yet, so it is not a big strain. I had a great role model in my father who busted his butt working seven days a week to raise his family and even though we are all grown up, he still works 6-7 days a week. If my dad can do it, so can I!

I do overtime at work first and if it is not available or if the OT will be taxed to where I may as well not have worked it, then I will take a second job.

For me second jobs and extra OT are temporary solutions--something I do if I need extra funds for unexpected bills or want to get something special. If I'm not making enough on a regular basis to cover my expenses and I can't cut back expenses anymore, then it is time for a new job with better pay. Which may mean I need to pay to upgrade my skills.

I enjoy my free time and find that free time is just as important to my continued good physical and mental health as having my bills all paid.
