She is only 5 months and her kennel is in the other room next to our bedroom. When we put her in to sleep she is very quiet but around 3:00-4:00 am everyday she will start barking and wont stop unless we get up just to let her out.

If you've just started Crate training (Kennel in UK...), then have patience and give it time. Within a couple of weeks the dog will adjust and stay in there quietly.

Put the kennel in a place during the day where the dog can go in and out of it as he pleases. Also, lock him up during the day for small incriments (start with 20 minutes and then work your way up to an hour or two). When you put him in, give them a treat and when you let them out, give him some encouragement (but not too much). Then, at night, you will want the kennel to be in your room or in an area that the dog will be comfortable in. My larger dog doesn't require crating at night be he sleeps in it anyways, my littler dog requires crating at night and he has to be crated in our room. We put a blanket over the crate sides and then we say goodnight and turn out the light. The dog barks usually for a minute but that is about it, once he is reassured that we are in the room.

Just work on getting your dog to not view the crate as punishment, but as a place of safety and security. If you are using the crate as punishment, you need to stop as he will continue to bark all night as he thinks hes being punished during the evening.

First of all, it matters where you live.
If you are keeping your dog outside and you live in Canada for instance, then that is inhumane, however if you live in a warmer area then she is probably barking because she doesnt like to be left alone.

Im just wondering why you bought/got a dog just to keep it in a kennel? What a life that dog is going to have...

In response to SkinnyT, you're a moron. Have you ever tried putting the bark collar on yourself to see how painful the shocks emitted are? They are inhumane. How about you train your dog properly, instead of taking the lazy way out?

Where is the kennel? If it's far from the rest of the family, then she is lonely and wants to be with her pack. Dogs are pack animals and don't like to be isolated. Move her kennel into your bedroom and throw a blanket over the top/sides so that it feels more like a den to her.

Try putting a blanket over the kennel. That worked for my dog!

There's a bark collar so you can put on your doggy, she'll wear it like a collar but wih a microphone so when she barks she can definatey really hear her own barking noise. Most dog owners find this Collar will stop your dog barking in no time.....

To Purchase Dog Collar go to your nearest Petshop and they will be able to help... If ur busy like we all are this time of the year go to www.ebay.com.au. I got mind 15 bucks...

I live in South Africa where crime is rife and criminals poison dogs in order to attack their owners. All my dogs sleep inside the house, making themselves at home wherever they please. If anyone comes into the yard, the dogs will hear it and give the alarm. They will also still be alive to help repel anyone who comes into the house. These are all giant dogs, weighing over 88 pounds and at one time we had twenty of them, so your single dog should be no problem to accomodate in your house.

I don't believe in confing dogs to kennels at night. Mine snuggle up to my feet at night. My neighbor had a problem with his dog barking and bought a shock collar. It worked but I think that's mean.

Have you tried not putting her in the kennel? Would you like to be locked up all night?
