My new puppy (7 weeks old, got him 2 weeks ago) doesn't show much affection. He rarely licks anyone, and if he does, it's only for a second before he starts biting your face. Although he does whine when I leave the room and wag his tail when I come back, he greets me and others by lunging at our faces and biting us. Is this normal? (We are good pet parents, I have another adult dog- a rescue, we never had a pup before- who is the sweetest thing on earth. We NEVER hit our dogs.) But this dog just seems to be out for blood! lol He is so aggressive! He growls intensely at my other dog and constantly bites him, though it seems like most of the time he is just playing. I'm so worried. What do I do? Is this normal, and if not, how do i make sure this pup gets a proper upbringing?

This is pretty normal. Most pups are too curious and dont want to be picked up and cuddled with, they want to investigate their surroundings. He should come around soon though. I know my puppy only liked to be cuddled when she was exhausted. As for the growling, this is normal too. He's trying to play with your other dog, just make sure your older dog doesnt snap at him.

*******DO NOT scruff shake this dog. This will make your problems worse!***********
This is the thing about taking a puppy away from his litter before he is developmentally ready to do so. The socialization that the Mom and his siblings provide prevents much of this behavior that you describe from happening.
Additionally, so does the good socialization that a responsible breeder provides. This is a shame. For whatever reason, your puppy was not socialized adequately by a long shot.
I hope you're getting great advice and support from your Vet. This puppy has extra needs so I hope these are being taken care of.
I strongly recommend that you join the Start Puppy Training group here on Yahoo. Explain your problem and you'll get great advice on there. The advice here, as you can see, is extremely uneven. I also urge you to study up on puppy behavior, and get the dog socialized no matter what. Be sure that 100% of his interactions with people are positive and that he is ***not punished*** in any way for the biting. This means no yelling, no slapping, no pinching, no shaking, none of that. If he becomes overstimulated and begins to bite, end the game and do not get physical. This is crucial. Good luck!

got him TWO weeks ago?!?! That means he was only 5 weeks old!.. What is wrong with all these BYB's??!? Puppies are supposed to STAY with their mothers for at least 8 weeks. Your pup is still very young, and should not have left his mother. His mother teaches him things that us humans are not able to. Just keep trying to train him and things will work out, however, you need to realize your pup was MUCH to young to leave his mother, and your going to have to have patience with him now

And as for the breeder that you got him from, call her up and tell her that if she were a GOOD breeder that she would keep the pups with their mom for 8 weeks. The person that you got this dog from clearly was only looking for money. And she probabaly didn't even take good care of your dog. Good luck though.

Your puppy is aggressive but this is a normal behaviour that has to be corrected. Don't let him bite you or the other dog, do as what his mother will do: take him by the skin of his neck (not badely but firm) and shake him, telling no, each time he tries to bite you or the other dog... as well to put him under soumission, you might put him on this back and tell him no... he has to learn that you are the alpha-animal and nobody else is superior. My puppy which is a labrador (very loving race), was the biggest of all the puppies (12 in total) but he was the dominant one.. he is easy to train and loving, and his only default is that he is dominant, I have to remember him often how is the boss... don't look at him in the eyes this is very important and don't let him bite you! When he tries to bite, I give my puppy a bone so he can play with it, as sometimes it is because of his teeth which are growing! Give your puppy time but don't accept him to bite you or other, he is very small... Good luck

He is just playing. You should discourage him from biting by telling him "NO!" very loudly when he does it. You can also grab him sorta roughly by the scruff of his neck when you tell him NO.
Not enough to hurt him - just grab him as his mother would to show him that you are the boss & that biting is NOT acceptable. He really was taken from his littermates too young so he didn't get to develop the normal interactions that he should have.
Pet him gently & when he behaves calmly - praise him.

It is normal to puppies that they bite others, because their teeth are still growing they need something to chew, but I suggest to train your dog to bite a chew toy. If he does bite the chew toy praise him, if he bite others scold him. It's normal to scold a pet if necessary to teach them.

He is likely to have behavior issues since he did not spend the critical time with the mother and littermates. The mother teaches them many things from 5-8 weeks, and without that time, they are more likely to have issues. I would consult a good trainer or behaviorist.
