We have been moving from Paganism, through monotheism, into scientific realism.
apocalypse is part of the Monotheistic phase we are passing through, when this phase is gone, so would be the Idea of Apocalypse.

The sign are recorded in the bible. Throughout history people thought the signs were being fullfilled. But they must ALL be fullfilled. Thelast ays will be as the days of noah. Their technology was not lesser than ours, just different.
