why does it need a foreign power ??

same reasons we have them in kuwait. stratgic placement. we need bases to train and deploy units from to go to places like.....iraq. same reason we stayed in germany for so long. it had nothing to do with the germans, it had everything to do with providing a forward base to fight the soviets.

We've been in and out of Saudi for a very long time (in fact forces were increased during the Clinton years.)
Last I heard PSAB had closed down, but I don't know if people are currently there. We come and go.
We'll always be in the area, and since we have an established base in Saudi, it's easier to stay there.

This country is dependent on oil. Now if we do not protect that interest alone, what would this country do when Iran or former Iraq, two countries that want to dominate the oil business do to the US and the world. Its unfortunate that we are dependent on oil but we better protect it at all cost. Think about it if we didn't have it. Life would really be different, and I do not think any of our generations would like it or even could deal with it.
