Christian Capitalism is still growing in the USA.
Check out the cheesy t shirts ripped off from products like Crest Toothpaste "Christ! Cleans And Whitens Souls!"

And then, the most dishonest profession there is: clergyman. Anyone who knowingly lies for a living should be taxed at 95 percent.

I don't know I am sure many many people. No it's not a driver in keeping religion. I love Aethiest because they are hippocrites, they practice a religion that doesn't believe in God. That is still a faith. There faith is that there is no God. I have faith that there is a God, in fact he speaks to me. The fact that people see God sometimes and the fact that he speaks to people both beliving and non beliving keep religion alive. God keeps religion alive and he cannot be stopped by any political agenda. Man trys to mock him and he scoffs on his heavenly throne! What will happen is people will be so shut off from God that sin will rule there lives and death and destruction will quickly follow because sin breeds death. God told me the other night ..."Let them sin thats there free will, when they are done destroying themselves they will come back to me. He also told me..." This nation (US) is fighting against me and I am heart broken as to what it has become. I am going to let its enemies have there way with it because it doesn't want me or my blessing." A fine example of Judgment, Judgment is God letting mankind destroy itself to its own sinful devices.

All of the loudest and most irritating on the far right depend on religious prejudice for their jobs. As well as all the pastors and all of the religious organisations.

So yeah, quite a lot of people are only good at once thing, making people afraid, and selling them deliverance from the fear that they themselves created.

Great racket if you can get into it.

Probably not as many as you think. The entire non-profit sector which includes Churches employs about 10 million people (7% of the US workforce). But that also includes all of the non profit types listed below:
--Arts, culture, and humanities, such as museums, symphonies and orchestras, and
community theatres;
--Education and research, such as private colleges and universities, independent
elementary and secondary schools, and noncommercial research institutions;
--Environmental and animals, such as zoos, bird sanctuaries, wildlife organizations,
and land protection groups;
--Health services, such as hospitals, public clinics, and nursing facilities;
--Human services, such as housing and shelter, organizers of sport and recreation
programs, and youth programs;
--International and foreign affairs, such as overseas relief and development assistance;
--Public and societal benefit, such as private and community foundations, civil rights organizations, civic, social, and fraternal organizations;
--Religion, such as houses of worship and their related auxiliary services.

There are about 400,000 Churches - or 25% of total non profit organizations.

As for motivation, I can assure you that nearly all non-profits are in it for the service and mission, not the money. For every wealthy mega-church pastor there are hundreds of over-worked, poorly paid clergy and staff.
