Your arm/clothes are making contact with the touchpad. It's a common thing that laptop owners do. Also, on some notebooks applying too much pressure to the keyboard itself will have the same effect. As the first poster said, stop touching the touchpad when you type.
Whatever you do, do not send it in unless the cursor moves on its' own after an OS reload without you touching the notebook at all.
Being someone who worked in a notebook repair shop, that was one our number 1 pet peves, and if I were in a bad mood, I'd delete all of their data, or put the unit on hold for a customer abuse issue, and I'd just make a reason up. I wasn't the only one who would do that either. :P

If you have a touchpad, try reducing the sensitivity, so you have to press harder to make it recognise your touch. If it's set very sensitive, it maybe you are brushing the pad.
If it's drifting one way only and has a stick mouse (like IBM's do... and some Compaqs) I've seen them go out of alignment and drift one way on screen. Sometimes it's due to crud in the keyboard (hairs round the mouse stick are very good at this) and sometimes it's just a ****ed stick mouse. I've had both.
If it's an optical mouse, try changing to a plain coloured mouse pad. They seem to get confused with some gradient coloured mouse pads.

I had the same problem. Then, I realized I was inadvertently resting my hands on the touch pad. They are so sensitive!!!
And, try as I might, I couldn't type without this happening again and again, due to it's position. So, I switched to a USB mouse and disabled the touch pad completely.
Problem solved.

Well, this could be one of the symptom of being infected by spyware, try running anti spyware in safe mode. If you dont have antispyware installed, get it installed and then run it. If you still have the problem, then its mouse that could have gone bad get a new one.

Your cursor is bored with your writing and is off to have some fun. I think it just borrowed your AMEX and bought two first class tickets to Amsterdam. Check your wallet dude!
