I was on vacation in St Thomas USVI with my family when my worst nightmare happened. Our lives were put in danger dur to locals on the island. Guns were pointed, our lives were verbally threatened, we were ambused and the list goes on. All along we had restraining orders in place, police reorts filed and the police continually failed to arrest the guy. I fled the island in fear for my life. The police department was no help. They lied, and sided with the violent man. IMy family was not protected because we were white and they were black, at least that is the only reason I can give to their absolute complete negligence. What can I do to not let the police get away with this? I am willing to take this as far as I can to get justice!

There is no jury of your peers in the VI, why do you think you would get justice... Forget it, its a lost cause. I answered questions in this group with my opinion, and within 24 hours I had a threatening email from a USVI government employee that reads and posts on this forum. A number of my rights were violated for self serving interests by the VI government. If you want to even the score and get justice, I would suggest you send your message to the cruise ships and its passengers.

Good luck.

Most of the caribbean islands are somewhat corrupt, and certainly side with the locals.

What is it that you think you'll get from persuing this?? A change?? Don't count on it.

You'll be wasting your time and money. Just take a look at Aruba in the news..

It is unfortunate that you found yourself a victim of crime while visiting us. If you felt that the Virgin Islands Police Department did you a disservice. Here are a few courses of action I would recommend:

1) Express your dissatisfaction directly too the VIPD. You can do so directly on their website at http://www.vipd.gov.vi/public_interest/feedback.aspx or by addressing your concerns directly to Commissioner James McCall.

2) Contact the local media with your concerns:

3) Address your concerns to the Governor of the US Virgin Islands. You can send him feed back through his website:

I can assure you that there are police officers within the VIPD that are genuinely trying to serve the public. However, there is no denying that elements of corruption exist in many law enforcement bodies. If there are such elements within the VIPD, then I too would like to see them routed out.

The best bet is to write to the editors of newspapers in the USVI and tell your story.
