Yes, you have a choice. You always have a choice.
I understand your family's concerns, they only want what's best for you! And so long as you are still under 18 (which i assume you are) you're going to have to work WITH them to get yourself involved.
You need to show them, though, that there are quality productions worth you being involved with.
My advice is to start with doing stage productions (its much easier to get experience doing theatre than doing any type of film work.) Maybe convince your fam to let you audition for the school play or something going on in the community. There are lots of really great things you can do that do not require kissing strange men, wearing sexy clothing, or any of the other things they may be worried about...
Good luck!

I agree with the person who answered above.

You ALWAYS have the choice of what shows you audition for and whether you accept the role or not. You can avoid roles where you wear sexy clothes. You can avoid roles where you have to kiss. You can avoid any role you may have an objection to.

However, you also have to realize that these things may also limit what roles you can play. Even in family movies and plays there's kissing. I've done tons of children theatre and have played many princesses and ingenues and there's almost always a kiss with the "Prince Charming" in the end. It doesn't mean we're sucking face - lol - but yes, there is kissing and I've kissed a lot of actors in the context of plays.

I do understand your parents concern. I think acting classes are a really safe way to start. You get to learn things about acting, practice, and possibly even perform. This may be a good way for your parents to get to see what acting is really all about - which is quite different, it seems, from what they may be picturing.

Sounds like your parents know very little about acting as a profession. (By the way, we female actors refer to ourselves as "actors" not "actresses" because that's the professional designation.) My family didn't want me acting either because they were ignorant of how the theatre worked. But if it is your dream then you need to keep going, especially after you graduate. As you act in movies, plays, commericals, etc that show the quality of your work invite your parents to see the things you do. Acting is an awesome profession and actors have many choices on which roles they want to portray. You may win your parents over one day... especially when you make it big! :-)

All human beings have a choice. You can choose to do what you like. But you should choose to take English, lots of it, and study hard, because with your English you are going no where.

Yea you can turn down roles if you don't mind starving

Many actors get their breaks because it calls for a topless scene and five other actresses passed because of that scene.
