Yes it will work but that will not be the end of the problem. There is a chance that one will die in an inaccessible place and stink. Once there is no further rat activity you will need to locate all their entry points and block them up. Hopefully the council guy has shown you where they all are. You will also need to discourage rats from coming near your house again. Do not feed the birds, keep the garden tidy and all rubbish in proper bins not left in bags. Also check that adjacent buildings are not doing anything to encourage the rats.

The poison is Warfarin which is an anticoagulant which works by the rats bleeding to death internally due to natural thumps and bumps which normally heal without problems.
Your problem is that if they die under the floor boards or similar inaccessible places they go rotten and STINK! then you have to get the floorboards taken up.
'Break-back' traps kill them instantly and you can find them and put them in the dustbin - recommended!

it may work for a bit,but rats eat the poison too and become immune to it,thats why they are always making better poisons but the rats are keeping up,so its ratcatcher 2--- rats 2,its a draw so far.
