I would say most go through that alot! You have to look at bosses point of view! They hear every story in the book of why someone can't show up for work!!! Sure there some real reasons, but today many skip out of work to do something else they want to do, and can't if they go to work! Now is that fair to the boss having to replace you for the day??? or for the other workers to cover your job for the shift??? No!!!
If your really sick then your sick and have every right to call in sick, But to play hooky from work just because you want to do something else and not a family problem etc. well then once in a great while doesn't hurt! But there's millions that do it at least 5 -6 times a month! Is that really being fair to there bosses?
Come on lets get real here, He or she respected you enough to give you the job, shouldn't you have a little respect for him in return? I feel bosses have just got so accustomed to workers calling in so much that he or she just ends up treating all the workers the same! Which, yes isn't right! but there just so fed up with fake sick call in's and just quit kind of workers and just get so burned out from so much frustration of having to deal with all that and then try to run the business too!
It's a lot of work just being the boss, let a lone making sure he or she hire's the right and honest people for the jobs! But they are human just like the rest of us and make bad choices too!

Don't know I have never done that in the 30 odd years of working, I have had 3.5 days off work in all that time, 3 for funerals and half day last week when I was sick and they sent me home and they deducted it from my wages?.

I don't speak to my boss, I just leave a message and tell him that if he needs to speak to me to call me. Though I only leave a message, I get really nervous and always think he is going to call me! He doesn't. My boss is the best!

Yep...I hate that, when they don't believe you, I usually don't call out unless I can't stop puking or I'm in the hospital...if it is the latter, I work at the hospital so they can look me up and confirm that I am sick!

Yeah, and I only called in once! I was really sick, too and that biotch still wanted me to come in.

i typically email my HR...so they can't hear me faking it.
but anyway, i'm allowed a certain amount of sick days per year. it's really none of my work's business (until i take sick days consecutively then my employee manual stipulates i give them a physicians note)
