For the moment stick with XP. Vista still has compatibility issues and is very heavy on the system. However Vista can be made to perform better by disabling User account control, system protection, File indexing and Aero interface. All these features just add extra bloat and you'll probably never want to use them. Leave it until the first half of 2008 when Vista service pack 1 will be released.

XP is miles better than Vista plus XP SP3 is coming gout soon, enhancing the capabilities of XP!

On the other hand, Vista has good eye candy. This can be reproduced on XP with things such as Vista Transformation Pack or a vista - like msstyle.

In conclusion, XP is the best!

Vista is unfortunately more cosmetic that practical. Microsoft have attempted to integrate some elements from MAC into the programme and frankly made a hash of it and it could be a while before the service packs solve the problems.
Stay with XP at the moment let vista settle down ad then consider a change.

XP is much more established, but if you know how to use it, Vista is better. I set Vista to classic mode (as I did with XP) so that the menus etc are like windows98, never liked the new system in XP. Vista supports directX10 and will play games etc much better (so long as you check compatability)

Most people say Vista is rubbish because they have installed it on systems that aren't upto the specs required.

If you want a good operating system with little frills use XP
If you want a sleak looking OS, with little gadgets and somewhat better performance go with Vista

I like Vista, its easier for me to use! I guess some people can't use it and find it hard, but its easy enough if you acctually take the time to look and find out how to use it! It's basically XP just in a different format! :D Plus Vista has much more things to offer than XP does!! Oh and by the way for everyone this isn't ment to be an offencive comment. And I have Vista for my laptop.

It depends on what you are going to use it for, many people stupidly say Vista is useless, but thats because they never bothered to check the compatibility with their current hardware/software. But if you're going to be buying a new desktop/notebook altogether, it doesn't entirely matter.

If you're used to XP and just want something for work or simple things stick with XP (but Vista's obviously a choice too). personally i'd recommend Vista because it'll be better to have as an OS in the long term...

It's all down to personal preference, try both of them out thoroughly and go for whichever you prefer....

Oh XP definitely. I've got half pages of information disappearing off the screen that come back when you click the mouse, crashing, its 'jumpy'. This thing is horrible. If or when they iron out the bugs in it Vista may become better but for now XP. If you're running a machie with XP at the moment then leave it! It's unlikely that you'll find a new machine with it though.

XP is for me. But Vista Home Premium came with the new computer. October, I decided to get a wide screen computer. Vista is alright. But like everything Microsoft, does it tells you what you can and cannot use. I had to buy a new
printer. My old printer was wrong. And most of the stuff you
download won't load.
