Either your ink cartridge is about empty or certain colors are empty, or your printer needs repaired or replaced. If its a brother multi-function printer then throw it away and buy an HP Officejet.
I know from experience that Brother MFC printers are garbage. I went through 2 of them in less than a year and both of them did exactly what you are describing. The first one was replaced under warranty and the 2nd one was replaced by me with an HP Officejet 6110 all in one printer and I've had it for about 5 years now and it works great.

ink is running out, as cartridges are made of 3 colours: cyan, magenta, yellow. if the one is running low this makes the other colours not show correctly.

make sure your cartridges are full. in times when there not the printer will use alternate cartridges.
