I am going to say the Suns in 5 or 6.
The mavs struggled last year in the playoffs but this year Howard is probably havin a better season than last but Nowitzki hasn't been brilliant so perhaps they cancel each other out.
I do however think that in a playoff series Marion can probably slow down either Dirk or Howard, whichever one he is assigned too. I also think that the Mavs would struggle to contain Amare if he got hot, whilst I don't think anyone can stop Amare when he is on fire I think the Mavs would struggle more than most as Dirk isn't great defensively and their is no other big name big man.
Leandro Barbosa is a guy who continues to improve and could really hurt the Mavs off the bench if he got hot as I am not sure they would have an answer for him.

Amare is the big x-factor for the Suns, if he can perform and do about 30-10, the Suns should have it. But he can only help Suns stay with the Mavs. Historically, match ups between these two teams have always ended in clutch situations. Personally, I think the Suns would have it in 7. Mavs choked last season against 8th seed GSW.

Phoenix Suns..... they would go 4-0 to Mavericks..because they are just a better team and Mavericks can always pull up to most wins but they can't seem to get it together in the playoffs... plus Phoenix Suns have Steve Nash...also a great team for him to pass too.

Phoenix would win in that series given the team's rosters. It would be a long and hard battle but the Suns would win it in 7. It's just a matter of who can guard Amare..

suns have the quickness advantage over the mavs except on the point guard position. harris can keep up with nash. and though the mavs have the size to battle amare inside, mavs, in turn don't have the tools to take advantage of the suns weak interior defense except for brandon bass who, at this point, is not a proven performer come playoff time. rebounding will be a classic case of size against quickness. if the mavs can control the boards, they can control the tempo. mavs should have an advantage. unfortunately, they have proven to be vulnerable to small ball because of their lack of a primetime slasher who can create his own shots. stackhouse ain't it. mavs should take advantage of the smaller suns by posting up but they only bass to do it. by controlling the tempo, mavs should be able to negate the suns' quickness by turning it into a half-court game. however, nash will have the advantage over harris because of his experience and court savvy.
to sum up. the mavs don't have anyone aside from the unproven brandon bass to take advantage of the suns' main weakness. without that, they can't force amare and skinner to foul out. suns in 6.

MAVS....in game 6
the run and gun type of game of the suns is'nt effective in the playoffs...the phase become slower by which we know is against the suns... and mavs, they are a versatile team...they can run and yet still play defense which gives them an edge come playoffs time........
