History of Modern China by Hsu - huge history book but use the index and I don't think you'll discover that China was 'colonised'. The Ching Dynasty's Empress got greedy and allowed trade hence the Boxer Rebellion. Prior to that, China wouldn't trade with anyone as they didn't need anything. Unfortunately, other countries needed what China had so introduced opium. Trade seems to have started there but not colonisation.

China was never completely "colonized" by any Western countries. Korea was colonized by the Japanese - not a Western country.
