How do you add a door to a house in the Sims 2?

I hope there are Sims 2 players out there. When I try to build a house I can not add a door. It says must place on center tile. Help somebody please.

I went to the EA games website they said it could be a third party addon or patch. Anyone else have this happen?

Okay,go to the build mode and choose the 'doors and windows' icon and click it. Choose a variety of affordable doors and click for your choice, then choose the color if that's available and style(if available too).Put on the wall and click. If you're putting it on the second floor, make sure both sides of the place the door will be placed have floors(tiles, wood...etc).

what is "third party patch....."?
