Computer security and privacy is a tough task. To answer your question in a simple but active way I should re-question you. What is the computer skill of your parents? If they are both gurus about computer security and privacy. You will need military wipe to clean your cache and downloaded files. If they know how to recover cancel or erase files you need softwares that would delete the files that you don't what other to see. Often we might think that what we have deleted and erased is gone. The answer is no... They could still recover it with some software if they want. If your parents are none of the both above then you don't have to worry that much but you should be a little because deleting your history doesn't mean deleting the cache or downloaded files(temp files). I assume that you are using I.E. In I.E or most of the browsers in the market today will store the information that you request and store it in a certain location in your hard disk. When you surf the internet. Let's say you have just opened www.yahoo.com. Your browser sends request to the server where yahoo.com is located. In a plain English, you have just ask to download the page and see it in your browser. In order to see it you need to downloaded it on your hard disk. While you open www.yahoo.com you might sometime see it streaming. You see some part of it on your screen then another part of it and when the download complete you could see the whole page of yahoo instead of just the banner or some images. You are seeing your browser doing the downloading job. So you could delete the history as long as you wish but what if they go to your cache folder or download folder and open the files or images your have downloaded while surfing the world wide web? Fallow this recipe:

1. In I.E 7 go to the internet option. Choose delete and you will see box that indicates you what you could delete. In your case you want to delete everything as possible. You could also go to the advance tab and within the security check boxes. Check the empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed. This will automatically empty your downloaded files each time your close your browser though, you should empty your surfing history manually.

2. Get a software that could get the job done. I will just point out one free ware here because it is easy to use and as long as you don't mess with it you will stay safe. Some cleaner software aren't for beginners because they could even erase your file system if you don't use them carefully. CCleaner is a great software. You could find it in download.com or simply click the this link http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10780785.html?tag=lst-1. CCleaner is a system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It's fast (normally taking less that a second to run). It cleans: Internet Explorer (Temporary files, URL history, cookies, Autocomplete form history, index.dat); Firefox (Temporary files, URL history, cookies, download history); Windows (Recycle Bin, Recent Documents, Temporary files, and Log files); Registry cleaner (Advanced features to remove unused and old entries, including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, and Invalid Shortcuts. So comes with a comprehensive backup feature.)

If the above recipe didn't solve your problem. Try to find out how your parents break your security defense then post another question because to secure your computer you need to know how they break it.

porn sites can put things in your favorites, give your computer viruses, put things on your desktop, add spyware, etc. You really need to stop messing with that stuff. In answer to your question, it depends if they look for it or not. They might notice the lack of history and also, if a virus made it on there you better believe they'll know some thing's up. Best thing to do is tell them so they don't end up having to go out and buy a new computer and hopefully they'll buy a program to block that so that you won't have to worry about being tempted again.

If they know what they are doing, they can. I suggest you get Powerdesk, as it has a "destroy" function, which overwrites all the files you want to remove. Do as Norm B above says, but that still leaves the index.dat file, which can be destroyed and replaced if you have another hard drive that you can use as the master, with your current hard drive as the slave. I have six hard drives, five of which never go onto the Internet, as I pull out all the plugs and remove them from the computer before going onto the Internet. Two have operating systems and I use either of them to get rid of anything I don't want anyone to see on the hard drive I use to surf the Internet, by replacing the index.dat files with the pristine ones on the other hard drives.

Delete cookies/ cache/ temp files. Then click start>run, Type temp then enter, delete everything in there, then click start>run again, type %temp% and enter and delete those files. Also make sure nothing is saved in the clipboard that you dont want anyone else to see. (just copy something else).

Thats all I can think of.

They can still check the cookies that have been put on your computer by the sites you've visited. It's very hard to completely remove any trace of where you've been if they know the different places that there's a record of where you've been.
