Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?

Thumbs up. Will Smith seems to like the stories with messianic/spiritual undertones lately, it seems (see "I, Robot"). The virus that affects humanity is a metaphor for sin, as over time it renders the person completely devoid of humanity and reduces him/her to a state of utter depravity (same theme as The Lord of the Rings' Gollum and the effect of the One Ring on people in general). The affected people are still capable of intelligent thought and ingenuity (as is depicted in the film), but they aim that toward exacting revenge, bent solely on destruction. (Sound like any well-known terrorist group leaders to you?) Of course, as a scientist bent on finding a cure for humanity's condition, Will Smith's character is the messianic figure. I really liked this aspect of the movie. (Partially reposted from another Yahoo! Answers question)

Haven't seen it but know it will be thumbs up because of Will Smith staring in it. He's never made a bad movie.
