They want to destroy your ego and self image. This is the first step in teaching you to blindly follow orders and that you are low on the scale of human life. This is why kids who are discipline problems can be trained in the service and become productive citizens.

Besides the uniformity mentioned above, the military frowns on the idea of individuality. That why we all had to look the same, march the same, fold our clothes the same way, etc. The military wants people who can work as part of a larger unit.

Hair won't get in the way if lice breaks out or something,
and the army thinks that its just respectful and to be clean cut in uniform.

Aside from the neatness and manliness aspect of it, it has to do with personal hygiene. Short hair reduces the chances of the soldiers from getting parasites like LICE in their hair. Thanks for asking.... and it's not a stupid question. If you don't know something, the smart thing to do is ask questions. That's how we learn.....

it is to be neat in appearance, to be clean and if they go into battle then the enemy can not grab you by the hair to get ahold of you plus the hair gets in the way and as much physical training they do it is hot on them so they want it to be gone and girls have to be collar length and layered I hope that this helps you
