The line of scrimmage. Or the invisible line running from sideline to sideline horizontally from where the ball is snapped.

Ahh but here is a point about the line of scrimmage and what we define as a pass. If a QB is forced to advance by running and is about to be hit, could not he lateral the ball to another player who then advances? Makes you think about what defines a pass. because i may be wrong but a Lateral is throw the ball to another just as is a pass.

The Quarterback cannot pass beyond the line of scrimmage. This will result in a penalty.

the line of scrimmage.the line of scrimmage is the yard line where the ball was snapped from on that play.if he crosses that yard line and passes, then it is a penalty called a illegal pass....15 yard penalty i believe.also, the offensive linemen blocking for the QB can not cross that line if it is a pass play.if they do,they will get penalized...15 yards...illegal man down field.once the ball is passed..then they can cross the line of scrimmage to help block down field.

once he crosses the line of scrimmage, the option of passing is gone. if he passes after crossing the line, it is a penalty of 5 yards and replay the down.

Until he reaches the green line(sometimes yellow or red) on the tv screen. Once there a lightning bolt is shot directly at the dot in the back of his helmet and his throwing arm is incapacitated.
