When I turn the heater on it runs for about four minutes, then it trips the circuit breaker. What could it be?

I was having problems with this today. Everytime i turned the space heater on, it would blow a fuse. And once i reset it, i tried again and it just kept happening. I'm not sure to why it just started, but maybe something you have using power in your house is using more than the electric heater should have left to use.

If your referring to an electric furnace built in conjunction with your central air system which breaker is tripping? When you say it runs about 4 min. what runs? The blower fan? Without more info I give you a couple things to check out.
1. Check (and change if dirty) the return air filter.
If filter is extremely dirty it can cause furnace to over heat but should shut down via a limit switch and not trip breaker.
2. Check blower motor and squirrel cage fan for dirt, motor being hot to touch and ease of rotation. Do this with the breaker off!
That's all I would suggest you do yourself. The best thing for you to do is to call a qualified service tech. in your area for a seasonal service check. Sounds like a problem created by lack of general maintenance. A service call is a lot cheaper than a fire!

You are plugging the heater on the same circuit breaker. Move the heater where it will not be on the same breaker. Simple fix.

Dust ... Turn off breaker, open the service panel and vacuum..

Faulty breaker... Call electrician and have it replaced..

Damaged wiring.... Call an electrician to look at the heater and wiring..
