We bought a new laptop for our son 4 christmas.

I set it up a month ago. Pulled it out last night to install bt home hub broard band, but cany get passed the log-in page.

Its asking for a password. I presume i put one in when i set it up, but stupidly i cant remember it.

Can i somehow skip this or over-ride or start set up again??

All thats on the screen is my sons name with his logo picture, under that is asking for the password.
To the right of the screen is options for shutting down.

That is all. Please help x

There is no option to close the screen, and i have tried all the usual things such as 0000 and enter without a password.

You need to remember the password ... you didn't have to put one on ...it's only a recomendation .... think hard ...what would you have put in there .... I'm assuming you've just clicked go and there isn't actually a password there at all???? ... Good Luck.
P.S. If you made the recovery disks (as you should have) you can run that and start all over again

I don't use my log in at all. Click on the two monitors icon that is on the bottom right hand side of the screen, you will then see a list of wireless routers that are in the laptop's range. Click on your one....if you're not sure then the number should match up with the SSID that is in the grey box on the back of the hub. Put the wireless key (WEP encryption key that is printed in the grey box on the back of the hub and it should connect. Then click on tools menu, click on internet options and change the home page to www.yahoo.com and away you go!

You only really need the BT to access the digital vault and to access the features.

However.... if you want the digital vault then you'll have to call BT for the password (it might be welcome01 though)

Did you try to login without putting in the password. A blank password is the usual way I do. Or put in your son's name or nickname.
Otherwise .....
Log in safe mode while booting. Log in as administrator. Create a new user with admin privileges. Reset your son's password. logout.

Here's a link to a website that will walk you through the process of reseting a forgotten password in Vista. http://www.watchingthenet.com/reset-windows-password-when-you-have-forgotten-it.html

Hope this helps.
