It’s natural for people to act the way you described. But what wins people’s heart is honest respect and sincere regard for them regardless of age. Never be bossy, but do be respectfully firm, fair and be friendly at the same time. That means don’t fear doing the nitty gritty work with your sleeves rolled up when necessary. Have lunch with them if you can to create rapport.
NEVER let pride get in the way. If you know you tend to be bossy or proud, truly repent and ask God to help you be humble. A humble heart is truly the mark of a great man. You will influence people of all ages, young and old.

You've been promoted to a leadership position. You must be the leader. Relationships that were personal in addition to professional, often change.
You have to come to terms with this and accept it. Do your job as it should be done. You will only gain respect if you assume the leadership role you've been given.
Perhaps after some time has passed and the working dynamics has fallen into place, you can become 'friendlier' - but it may not happen. Be prepared for either scenario.
This is the world of the workplace.

My Friend, you should always remember that in any organisation, an authoritative position is important only to the extent it serves the purpose of getting the work done through the mechanism of accountability. Beyond that you have to respect the age of the persons you are dealing with. In case of persons twice your age, you should be polite and use tactical ways of tapping the best out of them. Your problem is not new. Even in learning institutes where the faculty is half the age of people enrolling themselves for diploma courses or computer courses, there is this ego problem. By respecting the fact that people around you have an ego problem, you will only grow bigger because THE TREE THAT BEARS THE MAXIMUM FRUITS IS ALWAYS TILTED TOWARDS THE GROUND IN COMPARISON TO THOSE TREES THAT DO NOT BEAR ANY FRUIT. Even in case of people envying you, you have to remind yourself that it is a compliment for you in disguise because you definitely have something which others value and so the weak among them end up envying you. Do not let all this inspire hatred for your team. Remember you are a team leader and a leader has to always get the best of his team even if it calls for sacrifice of his or her ego within reasonable limits. Pray for them, hope the best for them and INSHAALLAAH, this will one day be noticed by them and they will respect you in the true sense of the word. All the best.

Love and respect for the 'good' in them , firm no but with compassion for the 'bad'."carrot and stick" policy practised simultaneously and appropriately in the above manner brings clarity and effectiveness without loosing out on people.Look for some good coming from them so that immediately, forcefully you acknowledge and appreciate, say how it benefited you and the work and at the same time when negative thing occur from them, politely but firmly say no no;they won't hate because you were the first one to appreciate them a while ago which perhaps nobody else have done to them so far! A new dimension of relations emerge at work place then.

Always respect the opinion of others, so that they will not have ego problem, but tell them the better way is this and you shoudld work like this to benefit the company.
In case if their opinion is better than yours then you should follow to them without having any hesitation

continue doing a good job. Haven't you heard this line in a song " you often lose the love you seek when you win"? i forgot the name of the song.
envy is hard to handle, you can be good, they will find a reason to hate you. just continue good work and don't expect to have good friendships, just like how very beautiful women usually don't have female friends. but if it's meant to be you will still have some as friends.
