I live in a Council property and every year they employ a company to do an annual boiler check and service. Anyway this year after they've been last week I've noticed a serious reduction in the temperature and volume of hot water, with the boiler on the same dial setting as it was before, which is the third highest so it can't be very energy efficient at the moment. I don't use the radiators. I obviously have to get someone back from the company to look at it but I wondered in the meantime if anyone knows what might have caused this, so I'll be a bit better informed when they come to look at it.

Fozzed, thanks but I don't think this is it as the problem seems to have been caused by something they did with the servicing. If it was just the cleaning thing surely there wouldn't have been such a sudden effect?

At an educated guess, they've mucked up the connection to the flow valve.

Had this happen at b/f's last place (Housing Assoc) when the cowboys with the service contract went anywhere near the boiler. Apparently it was also a notoriously cheap and nasty make/ model that fell apart if anyone breathed on it.

Test your heating. Then get them back - tell them you've no proper heating or hot water. If you've anyone elderly, disabled or very young living there, make sure you emphasise that (they have to come out quicker). Don't let them muck you about. Don't let the engineer leave until you've had the heating and water running satisfactorily - not just a quick "on-off" test.

I assume you have a combi boiler?? It way be a problem with the hot water thermistor, maybe a loose connection or just a coincidence that this seemed to happen after they left. The best thing to do temporarily if you want a better hot water temperature is to turn your stop tap down a little bit. (This is the tap that turns the cold water off to the house. Often found under the kitchen sink) If you do this it will reduce the flow rate at which the water passes through the boiler, with the flow rate reduced this will give the boiler more time to heat the water thus making it come out of the taps hotter. The flow rate of hot water to the taps will be slightly reduced but it shouldn't b a problem as long as you've got the hot water temperature you require. Hope this helps a little??

England or u . s ..???Twelve 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous boiler might want a great cleansing and a song up..it would be ok..The water tank, if I understand what you assert, is an electric water heater..?? whether this is it would desire to be getting drained. If the climate are long previous( there are 2 of them) you will get some warm and then cool water. in case you're accessible you could replace them your self..They value approximately 12 to $15 each and every. they have the two 4 nuts keeping them in or one enormous (a million a million/4") +/-hexagon suitable on it to eliminate it....close OFF the ability, eliminate the wires ( from one) lower back out the unit out counter clock smart. positioned pipe thread compound on the threads and reinstall. Then do the 2nd..One hours artwork..do no longer screw with the boiler. Ask around for a effective burner guy to do your boiler. In England, i've got faith, the comparable methods prepare..extra explaination: If one element is ineffective the tank won't shelter temp. in case you do one do 2. it fairly is going to keep you attempting to bother shoot the heater. Too complicated to describe...
