My GPU core (3D) is 576MHz and the GPU memory is 900MHz. What is a safe MHz to overclock to? it is a 8800GTX 768MB

Factory overclocked versions run at 626/1000 mHz core/mem clocks.

i run my gts at 610mhz and 2060mhz very stable. if the temp starts to creep up, download the latest version of n tune and use the manual fan option, its a bit noisy but keeps the card really cool.

overclocking causes heat, heat causes damage to various componentry in pc.If you don't know enough about it don't do it. By asking the question in here I suggest you don't know enough. Unless you got millions to burn respect your pc. Your trying to get it to do things it wasn't designed to do. So upgrade would be a safer option.

you've got one of the best out there... Why ruin it with overclocking? don't even mess with it. trust me, it''s cheaper to upgrade.

If your motherboard has an Intel chipset, you can't overclock it.
