He sells his watch to get her Hair Combs.
The family's main prized possessions were his watch and her hair.
But in their selflessness to get each other presents they gained more.

The girl cut off her beautiful hair to buy a watch chain for her husband. The husband sold his watch to buy her combs for her beautiful hair ... it's a perfect love story to be told at Christmas ... and my husband just bought me an e-Reader because I read a book a day, and he 'worries' because I like reading 'really FAT books' with tons of pages, and also have trouble reading the 'small print' in many books, and the e-Reader will let me enlarge the print, and weighs only 9 ounces. HE IS THE BEST HUSBAND ... all he wanted was a sweater (which he is getting, of course, and lots of other stuff too, of course ... ) ... but we will NEVER do the Gift of the Magi thing because we TALK TO EACH OTHER about the 'potential presents' we buy for each other. I hate surprises, and so does he, at least when it comes to gifts.
