I do some computer work on the side, and I was nicely informed after 3 years that I needed to close and what I was doing was a hobby - since I claimed too many losses. Now I am asked to fill out a W-9 by someone I'm working for. Should I panic? What should I do... I can just give them my SS#.... The form is confusing.

Thanks.

Just fill in your name, mailing address, and social security number. Then sign and date it. No biggie.

They just want to know your SS number so they can report it to the IRS.
