The best way to answer your question is "go schedule a test drive".
Because only you can decide for yourself if the extra power is worth the money... your money.
I'm pretty sure the salesman would be glad to let you try both. I know mine did, and he knew outfront (I told him) that I wasn't in the market for a new BMW, but being an enthusiast, I'm just curious. He was happy to let me try it out; even floor it at from a standing start at the lights...
The major difference is not really the horsepower. It's the torque. The 328i has a regular torque pattern, but the 335i pretty much gives you the max torque from a very low rpm on, and holds it there flat. That's what makes the MOST difference in your "butt dyno" sensation.

Yes, the 335 and the 328 are basically the same car except the 335 has a larger engine. It will pass better and accellerate noticably better in each gear. It will also use a little more fuel. The extra power will have a more discernable sound. I enjoyed my old Euro 635 CSI, and its sound; I would still have it if the body hadn't rusted out.
Only you can answer the question of is it worth it. You will likely get some of the extra cost back at trade time when/if you want to sell it.

I have owned three BMW'S in the last three years. My first was a 330ci. It had 225 horse power. It was weak to say the least. I believe a 328 would have about 230 horse power. My 530i has 255 horse power and it is quite adequate. I recently purchased a 335i and can honestly say that it truly rocks. I would never ever purchase a car without at least 300 horse power ever again as long as I live.
While the 328i may look just like the 335i, it is not the same when it comes to power and torque production.

we just got our 328XI this past summer and compared to the p.o.s. buick we traded in, it hauls the mail. we didn't test the 335, but did test a Z4, and an X3, i'll just say, i don't think there is a bad bmw out there, they're all nice. i don't need any more power than what we got in the 328, and i sure don't need the tickets i'd get if i had more power! it's hard enough keeping this car at a reasonable over the legal limit speed here in ticket happy CT. love ours, totally happy with it and the power it has.

I bought the 335 and I think it was worth every penny. The engine is just as powerful as the last M3 but it has a turbocharger. The 6-speed is amazing. For me, it was pretty much a 328 with a nav and sport package or a 335 with just the sport package. I think I made a great decision.
P.S- Get the sport package, it makes a big difference.

It's an unbelievable difference. The 335 posts near M3 clock times. If you like the power then it's worth the money. If you don't care then stick with the 328.

If you drove both cars and didn't notice a difference then go with the 328 and spend the extra money on the XI version.

i personally dont think the 335 is worth the extra money. its about 5600 US dollars more.
the accerlation to 60 mph is only .9 seconds better on a 335 manual than a 328 manual.
and the 335 gets 18/25 mpg
and the 328 gets 19/28 mpg
i dont think the extra 5,600 and few mpg lost is worth the .9 seconds it takes to get to 60

Yes, the 335i is naturally more powerful of a car. You can REALLY feel the difference. You can hold with Porsche's with a 335i Coupe.
