If you increse three times a certain number by 4, the square root of the result is 11, find the number.

Hmmm, no quadratic needed for this one...

( 3x + 4 ) = 121
3x = 117
x = 39

Sure enough, 3 x 39 is 117 and increased by 4 is 121, the square root of which is eleven.

x+12=11^2
x=109

sqrt(x+4+4+4)=11
Then x+12=121
Then x=109.

What means "increase three times a certain number by 4"? :S
I am assuming it means doing three times the following: "increase a certain number by 4"
