you might try using the tampons without an applicator - the ones you push in with your finger (O.B. is the name brand I think). Of course use the smallest ones available. If it still hurts, take a pair of scissors and cut off the top of the tampon, making it smaller. I've never done this, so if you put it in and it doesn't hurt, wear a pad to see if it even works for you. I hope it does. Pads suck.

Also, use lube. Lotion works great.

Most likely after you've had sex and broken your hymen, wearing tampons will be more comfortable because your vagina will be more relaxed. But please, don't have sex just for that reason!

Ya the first time hurts like hell for me too. But I have realised somthing: first, you have to be completely relaxed. If you feel pain, chances are u'll tense up even more and will 'close up' your vagina. Try to slant it at an angle so that the tip of the tampon points backwards (towards your behind).
If you are too dry in there, it might hurt too with any movement of the tampon. You might have a 'prelude' of a few drops of blood before the rest of the blood come out. If you put in at this moment, it might hurt. I usually put on a panty liner at this point, then wait until the majority of the blood is coming, then i insert the tampon.
Agree with the disgusting pad, by the way.

I Had The Same Problem...
Try The Non Applicator Ones... There More Comfy!
Make Sure You Don't Put The On When Your Light As well Cos That May Be Why It Is Hurting.

It's probably your hymen that's in the way...let me explain.
Most girls are born with a really thin piece of skin that partially covers the opening to the vagina. Some girls hymens sort of desinigrate through sports and other activities (like horse back riding) that involves having your legs far apart (which stretches your hymen). But some girls still have their hymen when they start to use tampons since they are virgins and it hasn't torn previously. I still had mine when I started using tampons. It felt like I was ripping my vagina open when I put them in (ESPECIALLY when i took them out. Oh my god the pain), and they never seemed to fit in, they were too fat around! Sorry about my rambling but what I'm trying to say is that I've figured out that I have a septate hymen http://healthystrokes.com/hymengallery.html
http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/hymen.html
so i could get the tampon in, (on one side of the hymen) but then when I tried to take it out, it would be pulling the middle section of my hymen with it. There is a simple procedure doctors can do to "snip it", making it way easier.

I really hope I helped, because I know that a few years ago when I started using tampons i was like "I'm a freak!!" but now I know that I can get it taken care of very easily. Try to talk to your mom about it, or your doctor. Also look up more info on septate hymens and maybe that's what you have. This might sound gross (but most people do it) take a mirror and look at your vagina, it will help you figure out the problem.
Good luck!!!

I had a similar problem. You are probably not putting it in right. What i do i put my foot on the toilet seat and make sure you point it towards your lower back. When i started i used minis by U Kotex. But I am in australia so i dunno if that would help at all. When i was in USA i used O.B. They are really good for beginners. They have a special thing to put your finger to help you put it in. Get the ones without an applicator. Its alot easier. Hope i helped a bit.

You are probably putting it in at the wrong angle or something and pushing on your hymen as a result... that's what it sounds like at least.

Like someone else mentioned, I would try using the Tampax pearl or the O.b brand because they don't have applicators so it's not as uncomfortable if you are still new at tampon use.

You may be using the wrong absorbency.

Try starting with the lightest absorbency plastic applicator tampon (I recommend Tampax Pearl Lites).

Also try using some lube to slide it in there.

Ask a female adult that you are close to for help.

i know this sounds obvious but there are instructions in the box, and you are not putting it in correctly if it hurts and there is even a good chance you are using a tampon that is you large for you, go get the pearls for juniors, i think it is by playtex and just practice. You will get it! Good Luck

make sure you start small and work up its better to have to change it in two hrs then be painful since you got one to large... they have lites and plastic ones..... start with that sit down on the toilet sitck it in... until the end (where the grip is) push the end in then pull out the applicator and walla its in

dont go in knowing it will hurt its all a mind game... relax

the first times i tried i had problems too

Maybe you are putting them in wrong. Try sitting comfortably on the toilet seat or putting your foot up on the bathtub. Point the tampon toward your lower back.
