Al Jazeera (Arabic: الجزيرة, al-ğazīrä, [al.dʒaˈziː.ra], meaning "The Island", referring to the Arabic name for the Arabian Peninsula) is a television network headquartered in Doha, Qatar. Initially launched as an Arabic news and current affairs satellite TV channel with the same name, Al Jazeera has since expanded into a network with several outlets, including the Internet and specialty TV channels in multiple languages, and in several regions of the world.

The original Al Jazeera channel's willingness to broadcast dissenting views, including on call-in shows, created controversies in Persian Gulf States. The station gained worldwide attention following the September 11, 2001 attacks, when it broadcast video statements by Osama bin Laden and other al-Qaeda leaders (see Videos of Osama bin Laden).

It is a state run news station so will be a mouth peace for the Emir. That being said, it would add a different perspective to things IF people would actually watch it and if they were smart enough to realize what the station is.

Why not? Currently Univision, a network of several Spanish channels , ranks fifth in sixe behind NBC,CBS,ABC and Fox.The BBC is also broadcasts here int he states.All networks and channels must follow FFC guidelines to broadcast .They will be regulated like all other channels.

We have a growing population of legal Hispanics and Arabs in the US. I am sure that they would like to hear the news in their own native language.It is our traditions and cultures that make each one of us unique.I am opposed to censorship .Our nations was founded on the concept of religious freedom as well as a government for the people by the people.If we refuse them; that will put our government back hundreds of years.
IPerhaps, this effort could cement the Middle east and West.
understanding of each other.

They've been trying for years; The news station calls HAMAS militants martyrs, and does not demean any arab resistance group regardless of the action.
It does however unconditionally demean the israelis;
I don't think it'd be very popular here in the U.S.; but if you compare aljazeera to say alarabya or alwatan, it becomes apparent that aljazeera is closer to any western news agency than any arab news agency.

I would watch the arabic channel only; the english one doesn't feel right.

This is good, it shows the world that freedom of speech is alive and well, at least in America.
