Do not move to Ipswich, Inala or Browns Plains. These areas can tend to be noted as a little 'rough'.
If you can move a little further south I would move to the Gold Coast, only 1/2-1 hour from brisbane and definately much nicer place. Most areas here are very clean and perfect for families. Ormeau, Coomera and Oxenford are north Gold coast and only 1/2 and hour from brisbane. They are also where a lot of housing development is going on so you can buy, build or rent a house for a very resonable price.
I also think that Robina, Varsity Lakes, Merrimac, Burleigh, Currumbin, Tallebudgera and surrounding suburbs are very nice. (more the central gold coast).
Most brisbane suburbs are good but I think south brisbane is better (south of the CBD) because of the atmosphere and cloeser to the gold coast where all the major attractions are.
It really depends on where you plan to find work but you really can't go wrong unless you move to the places I mentioned above. Don't move west though.
Try looking on this website for properties and their locations. It might give you a better idea of prices in certain areas and the properties available to buy or rent.
best of luck with the move

Brisbane has plenty of pleasant suburbs, north, south, east and west, where a family with 2 kids will fit right in.
But the suburb to choose really depends on where you will be working (it's geographically a very big city, so you don't want to live on one side and work on the other and deal with the traffic congestion at peak hour) and what kind of price you are looking to pay. If you can give some indication of any of these or what kind of facilities you want in the area you are living, it might be easier to suggest some specific suburbs.
You can find info on the costs of renting or buying in the different suburbs here:

good suburbs are scattered all over brisbane. the essential question is where will you be working??? Brisbane has major problems with traffic gridlock and water shortages/drought at the moment. You want to live close to work and close to a private school.
Best to rent for the first 6 months to year until you get your work sorted out. The closer you live to the city centre - the more expensive housing costs will be.

Any where north of Brisbane , Reddcliffe is great 20 min drive into Brisbane , Sunshine Coast also from Caloundra to Nossa , farther north and a bit more peacfull but not too quiet is Bundaberg , super climate relaxed life style , great beaches with the sea nice and warm for swimming etc , Of course your job requirements will have a bearing on the best place for you .
Cheers Pete

Brisbane has heaps of great suburbs to live in. I lived there for 2 years, lived on the south side, in Yeronga, Yeerongpilly, Cannon Hill and Morningside - Carindale is also a great suburb - any of those

It really depends where you will be working. If working in the CBD and want a mid-priced home, it is probably best if you live in the Centenary Suburbs (Western Suburbs) because of the close proximity to the city and the social development for your children is very high. However, it's all up to you where you want to stay.
