I do believe condoms should be given out through the school to prevent teen pregnancy and a case of std's. I don't think that if you give kids condoms in school that it is encouraging them to have sex but teaching them the calues of safe sex, which is better learned at young age before it is to late. 2002 was the official date that condoms were made available through out schools and since than teen pregnancy has dropped to an all time low of 36% which is positive because it is controlling some of the united states population and just for childrens sake, just think when a teenager gets pregnant its not only throwing their life away but think of the baby. When I meet a teenager who can work a fulltime job and go to school and be a parent than I will be surprised. Also, since the year 2002 std's among kids have decreased by 37% that is also a plus! No one and expecially a child should be cursed with a std no matter what they did. Inevidably kids are going to have sex, its a matter of curiousity and coming of age. Schools, parents, and everyone else should see they are taught to use protection and kept safe!

I think it's positive overall because teenagers are going to have sex regardless and it's better they be protected against unwanted pregnancies and STDs than not.
Education includes sexual education and condoms are a part of this. Even though it seems like the condoms could encourage sex, I have a feeling it would happen no matter what.
Better prepared and safe than 16 and pregnant with no where to turn or with an STD or something....

I don't think they should be handed out, necessarily (as in the school teachers handing out condoms to students every day during first period or something). But I do think they should be available to those who want them (perhaps in the bathrooms, or a health class or something of the sort). Teens will have sex if they want to have sex, regardless of whether or not the school provides condoms. So the schools should provide them, and if the student needs them they can go get them. Better safe than sorry.

I think it just encourages kids to have sex. By giving out condoms, the message is being given that it is ok if you have sex--as long as you use protection. Now, I am not sure what age group you are referring to here, but all in the same, sex is something sacred that should be shared between the husband and wife. Its an act of unity and commitment to one another. Its not a toy.

No one, not teenagers or anyone else, needs an "invitation to have sex." ALL People, regardless of their age, have sex because they WANT to, not because some third party has cleared them for sexual expression. Having condoms available at school where teens spend a good portion of their time essentially means that they have easier access to them and thus are more likely to use them. Putting up barriers because you mistakenly think it will prevent teens from engaging in sex neither stops them from doing it OR protects them when they do have sex.
I am so tired of the Fallacious reasoning that having a condom within close proxemity of a teenager is going to cause them to jump on the next virile person they see and hump them because, "it's okay, we have a condom!" Teens are NOT stupid, nor are they as sex crazed as the media portrays them to be.
People and parents need to realize that the reason that they have sex with their significant other is THE EXACT SAME reason why teens have sex with theirs. It feels good, it brings a relationship closer together, it's pleasureable, it relieves stress, and it's fun. But just like the rest of us, being denied contraception and condoms is not going to stop them from having sex (look how many grown women on this board became pregnant because they didn't have a condom but wanted to have sex). With increased access to condoms, teens who ARE having sex, use them more often. With decreased access to condoms, teens who ARE having sex STILL HAVE SEX just without the condoms putting themselves at risk for disease and pregnancy.

I don't neccesarily think they should be HANDED out but I do think they should be available. I am a 16yr old male, and a junior in high school. Knowing from experience, i think it would be a good idea to have them available in like the restrooms and stuff. Because things do need to be done about unwanted pregnancies. My school has many! Its not like its a birth control pill so I think, overall, it would be a good thing.

Schools have been educating kids and teenagers on sex for so long, and the message just isn't getting through. So, I think it's a great idea as most teenagers are too embarresed to buy condoms. If you can't prevent it, you might as well provide them with safety while they are doing it.

i agree with giving condoms away but only if they come with sex ed classes. i mean with teenagers nowadays, most are willing to try something new and a lot of them a very curious. since you can't really keep an eye on teens like taht all the time, eventually something will happen. ignorance, in this case will cause accidents. expensive and life changing accidents....

the other day i was talking to a 15 year old about school she just started highschool this year. one of her friends came over and said “hey sam did you hear that the new thing for 5th and 6th graders is anal sex so they don't get pregnant.” just to let you know that would make them 10-12 years old. yes i think they should make them available at school and everywhere else. would you like to hear that you 10 year old is going to have a baby? and yes it is possible. both me and my mom started our periods for the first time at 9. my sisters were both 10. the schools are just trying to fix what perents scewed up. oh and i was 17 when i had my first child not to mention all of the teens on answers asking pregnancy questions and stupid one like can pre ejaculate get someone pregnant.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEESSSS,
A condom in your pocket NEVER made a girl have sex with a boy, when I was in HS most guys kept a few condoms in their car, just in case. I am sure MANY NEVER got used.
I think we need sex ed in middle school, look at how many "could I be prego" question are posted here. Modern females don't ALL have the same knowledge they need.
